Trend Watch: Skater Skirts

Skater Skirts
One of the hottest trends of the summer that is breezily transitioning into the fall is skater skirts. Inspired by the twirly, beautiful ensembles worn by figure skaters, these skirts can give any outfit a fun and feminine flair. Although skater skirts have been relevant for a couple years now — and your mom may cringe at this revived 80s look — but they’re now at their peak in the fashion world.

Skater skirts come in every fabric, color, and pattern imaginable, so they can be worn to your BFF’s birthday party as well as the office. My favorite style of the skirt is leather (of course) in either black or camel. Not only do leather skater skirts just scream fall, they make up the most amazing outfits. I like a leather camel skirt for the workplace, maybe paired with a silky, printed button-down blouse, black tights, and simple flats.

For a more recreational look, I put together an ensemble that is centered around a black leather skater skirt. By nature, this skirt looks a little badass, so I kind of played that up as well as contrasted it with the pieces below. First of all, I chose a plaid button-down with a sequin collar to make this more of an everyday outfit. I chose polka-dot tights for a little print mixing as well as a girlie detail, then some black zip-up booties and a cozy circle scarf to top it off. When it came to accessories, I selected pieces that went along with the naughty/nice vibe. To complement the rockstar effect, I picked out a gorgeous snakeskin satchel, pyramid stud earrings, and navy blue nail polish. For the feminine flair, however, I chose a delicate bow bracelet, a simple silver watch, and cat-eye wayfarer sunglasses.
