A Very Velvet New Year’s Eve: Two Ways

For the past few months, I’ve been on the hunt for an emerald green velvet slip dress (not specific at all, right?!), and finally found one just in time to watch the ball drop. Since the slip dress trend is so easy to style and dress up or down, I decided to do just that for a special NYE two ways post!

For the casual look, I went for the Cher Horowitz inspired layering trend that has ruled 2016. I topped it off with two more huge pieces from this year – a choker and Adidas Superstars. Because why wouldn’t I go full 90s to ring in the new year?

Velvet Dress: Love Culture | White Tee: Forever 21 (similar) | Sneakers: Adidas | Bag: Gap (similar here) | Choker: Nordstrom

To dress up this velvet slip, I slipped on a faux fur coat, some lace-up heels (with tassels!), a lariat necklace, and an envelope clutch. For the finishing touch, I added a dark lip for a little drama.

Hope everyone has a happy and safe New Year’s Eve! As always, thanks for following TK&PD, and stay tuned for some big thangs comin’ your way in 2017!

Black is the New Black

…At least that’s what my shirt says, anyway. Y’all know I’m partial to rocking some color, but sometimes you just gotta go back to the basics – black, white, and shades of gray. This faux fur coat from SheIn features all three, making it my new favorite winter weather piece that goes with just about everything.

This jacket has an athletic, almost bomber-style shape to it, so I went with a more sporty vibe with this outfit. I opted for a black tee, gray distressed jeans, and these seriously killer Taxidermy high tops. You didn’t think I’d leave an outfit untouched by at least a little pop of color, did you? Simple aviators and a topknot *topped* (see what I did there) off the rest of this sporty-chic look.

I accessorized with a classic crossbody, sparkly black studs to add a little femininity to the outfit (can’t help myself), and a white marble inspired ring, because #bloggerslovemarble. Last but not least, I finished off the look with matte nude lips thanks to the Kylie Lip Kit. Yep, I tried it – and no, I don’t hate it.

Before the warm weather takes over Charleston very soon, I’ll be wearing this coat with everything I own. Oh, and did I mention it’s only $37? *insert praise hands here*

November Neutrals

One thing that I cannot stop wearing this season is the poncho. Since they come in all different colors, patterns, and fabrics, ponchos are one of the most versatile pieces of autumn – which means you need to get yourself one, like, yesterday. These dignified snuggies also make for the ideal Thanksgiving look, which can be easily dressed up or down for first turkey day with the BF’s family, or homeless-chic Friendsgiving with pals. See, versatile!

I picked up this poncho at Charleston’s newest gem, Apricot Lane. Y’all, this is not a drill – this store is the real deal. They have such adorable, trendy pieces at the BEST price point. As you may recall if you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, I mentioned that I was co-hosting an event with my girl Tara Belle to welcome this sweet new shop to the neighborhood. It was impossible not to spend the whole event shopping for myself – oops! This poncho was one (of many) of my finds that night, and I’ve been wearing it nonstop ever since.

When it came to styling this cozy little number, I kept things relatively simple with a neutral color palette. Winter white skinnies (with major stretch for that Thanksgiving food baby), cognac booties, a knotted belt, and a grey v-neck tee were just about all this look needed. However, because we all know this chick can’t go minimal to save her life, I topped off the look with another statement piece – a snakeskin Taxidermy bag. Local girls, stopping by the Taxidermy showroom on Spring is absolutely imperative. Everything is to-die, Amy is the bomb.com, and your Christmas list will make itself. Oh, and did I mention you can hold the same bag Beyoncé has?

As for my jewels, I opted for silvery steel tones instead of my usual gold (!) with these amazing ear jackets and ring from Theodosia. And last but not least, my trusty stack of B&B bangles – hey, I had to sneak a little gold in there.

This is what I’ll be rocking this Thursday – what outfits do y’all usually wear on Thanksgiving to balance comfy and chic?

Lace It Up

Confession: it took me a really long time to get on board with all the 70s trends that have been popping up this year. I know, I know – what was I thinking? Maybe it’s because I’m a thrift store shopper and I’ve been avoiding weird suede vests and patchwork skirts for the past 10 years. But like always, what’s old is new again, and I’ve finally acquired a taste for this revived trend. Enter: full suede dress.

The first thing that drew me to this black suede dress from Stylexchange was the lace up neckline. This is another trend that is resurfacing from yesteryear, and I’m v. into it. The details on what is otherwise a very simple shift are such game changers. The bell sleeves give me major Stevie Nicks vibes, the short hemline flatters this 5’2″ frame, and as for the tassels? Genius. Call me a bandwagon fan (who are you anyway, a 22 year old dude referencing his favorite sports team?), but 70s trends, I’m feelin’ you. Sidenote: if you know me well, you know how much pleasure I get out of the genuine anger and frustration boys feel towards “bandwagon fans.” But I digress.

Alright, I think it’s time we talk about these shoes. Initially, when styling this shift, I thought it needed some simple heels or booties. But then I made eye contact with these studded snakeskin works of art, and I forgot everything I’ve ever known (#dramatic). As for the rest of the outfit, I *attempted* to keep the rest simple with a bordeaux-hued hat, a black Botkier crossbody, sassy pave gold horn ear jackets, a few gold rings (peep that antler one), and some round aviators from Quay. Okay, it may not be “simple” but what even is simple anyway?

To top off the look, I went with nude lips, nails that (unintentionally) matched the hat, and subtle winged eyeliner. Amp up black eye makeup and/or add an oxblood lip, take off the hat and sunnies, swap the booties for pumps (I’m picturing these <3), and this dress transitions seamlessly to a night out.

Longline & Feelin’ Fine

When the weather is still pretty toasty but all you want is fall clothes, you have to play with light layers, rich colors, and luxe details. This look combined a little bit of all of that, making me feel October-appropriate but not uncomfortably hot. One of my favorite ways to achieve this balance is a longline vest – they are breezy, chic, classic, and add polish to pretty much any outfit. Not to mention they give me major “mom from The Parent Trap” vibes (ugh RIP); a look I’m constantly trying to covet. See how I styled this timeless piece below!

So now that we’ve got the “light layers” part covered in my early fall outfit recipe, let’s move on to the rich colors. I love how this black MINKPINK dress is scattered with leaves and flowers in pretty autumn hues – it’s the perfect transitional piece for fall (not to mention made for this vest). For another warm pop of color, I opted for berry lips and deep brownish-purple nails.

Last but not least, you guessed it, the luxe details. I’m always a fan of gold in these situations (shocker), so I did it up with lots of gold accessories. I love the subtle touch of gold on my envelope clutch, and these round cat-eye shades from Quay Australia offered just the right amount of shiny sass. My Daniel Wellington always offers a luxurious touch, as did these bangles and soft leather peep-toe booties from Dolce Vita. Since I felt like the neckline of the dress needed a little something, I went with this dainty starburst lariat necklace (not the candy, unforch) that was – wait for it – LESS THAN $5. Nope, I didn’t forget a zero, it’s really $4.90. And because I can never resist fingers full of rings, I put on a few midis and a stack of delicate Gorjana rings from Rocksbox that are currently on repeat. Don’t forget to use code chloexoxo for a free month of similar jewelz getting sent to your door ❤

Needless to say, I see a lot of longline vest days in my future. It just kind of makes me feel like Carmen Sandiego on vacation, which is always a good thing IMO. When chillier days arrive, longline vests also transition seamlessly when paired with your favorite fall staples, like distressed skinnies and a turtleneck.

What do y’all wear on these humid fall days? Comment below so I can steal your ideas, hehe.

#SBScon Day 1: Matchy Blue

IMG_5933 copy

If you follow me on insta, I’m sure you saw my many, many photos from the Southern Blog Society conference a couple weeks ago. Well, my looks from each day of the weekend are coming to the blog this week – finally! Don’t blame me, blame the blue wristbands from the conference that had to be edited out of my photos by my photoshop savvy friend who now hates my guts. But I digress… Take a peek at my first outfit from the welcome cocktail party, hosted by Swoozies!

I was having the hardest time nailing down my outfits for the conference – that is, until I walked into Lily Rain. This boutique just opened up in Mt. Pleasant and there isn’t one thing in the whole store I didn’t love. When I saw this matching set, it was a no-brainer for the welcome cocktail. The combination of the cutouts, the nude underlay, and the unique fabric (seersucker’s edgy sister) had me at hello.

When it came to my accessories, I kept things pretty neutral with my heels and clutch. I love how they kind of picked up the nude underlay of the matching set! I accessorized with minimal gold jewelry and my blue mirrored sunnies to keep up my blue theme. Last but not least, I couldn’t resist a pop of color with my coral lips and nails! Sometimes I just gotta go full on matchy-matchy, and I can’t say I hated it.

What do you think of this summery southern look? Stay tuned for my Day 2 outfit!

Born in the USA

We all know I’m a serious sucker for a matching set, so when I stumbled across this eyelet top + shorts, it was all over. I actually bought this set back in the spring, but I wasn’t quite sure how I wanted to style it, so it just hung in my closet. Finally I was ~inspired~ by the 4th of July and it all just flowed. Don’t ya just love when that happens?

I think when it came to styling this, my problem was trying to avoid looking too cutesy. I mean it is white, eyelet, scalloped, and has tiny buttons down the front for crying out loud. If I read that description to you, you’d probably think I was talking about an infant’s baptism dress. See my problem? I recently bought this jean jacket on sale(!) at Gap, and ever since then I’ve been wearing it nonstop. This outfit was no exception. I love how it looks slung over the shoulders to make this outfit a *little* more modest, but it also looks too cool 4 skool when tied around the waist. To add to the edgy, I went with lots of black accessories: a black envelope clutch, lace-up heels, round sunglasses, and my Daniel Wellington watch.

As always, I went a little overboard with my jewels. I’m talking major stack of bangles, fingers full of rings, and even a couple flash tattoos. Then, since I already had the white and blue, I added a pop of red with a precious pair of heart ear jackets and crimson lips.

Happy 4th of July, y’all! Don’t forget to check out yesterday’s post for a little Independence Day outfit inspo, as well as the master list of holiday weekend sales ❤

Pineapple Party

It’s no secret that pineapples are absolutely everywhere right now. My problem used to be that I needed more pineapple paraphernalia, but now the issue is to not wear it head to toe. I was super excited to shoot this dress, not just because I’m in love with it, but because it was my first shoot with my new photographer, Jessica Smith of Smith Photos + Ink! She’s super talented, so much fun to work with, and just gets it. We’re a match made in heaven and I’m thrilled to announce that she’ll be the official photographer of TK&PD!!! Take a look at how amazing she is in my new favorite shoot below.

When I saw this dress at one of my fave local boutiques, II Brunettes, it was all over. Not only is it covered with everyone’s favorite trendy fruit, but I adore the colors, low back, and swingy silhouette as well. It also kind of reminds me of what my sister, Jordan of luxe & staple, made for me for my birthday (as seen here), which makes me happy too.

When it came to styling this dress, less was definitely more. Because the dress is so beautifully busy, I just went with neutral wedges to let the frock do its thang. I also kept jewelry pretty minimal with some white geometric earrings, a couple gold midi rings, and my starfish cuff. However, I couldn’t resist pattern mixing with my Clare V. clutch and adding a pop of color with my blue mirrored aviators. If I weren’t overaccessorizing, who would I even be?

I topped off the look with clean white nails and a bright pink pout for another little pop of color, making this the ultimate summer ensemble. What do y’all think?

Into The Limelight

There’s nothing I love more than a good striped dress. Actually, just stripes in general. Although I’m not usually the bodycon dress kind of gal, the asymmetrical hemline and slit situation on this dress from Stylexchange had me at hello.

When it came to styling this dress, I went with some simple heels and my go-to statement necklace, which made this a very me, very cute outfit. But that’s no fun, now is it? To edge it up and step outside my comfort zone a bit, I went with my 5 dolla mirrored T-bar sunnies and a highlighter-hued clutch from Styledwell. Much better. I topped off the look with (unintentionally) matching coral lips + nails and my gold Gorjana cuff from Rocksbox. Don’t forget, y’all can still get your first month of Rocksbox FREE with my promo code, chloexoxo.

If picking up strangers’ dogs off the sidewalk and making out with them is wrong, I literally never want to be right. That is all.

Floral + Fuschia

Last week I attended a bridal fashion show hosted by Maddison Row and Bella Bridesmaids at beautiful new Charleston venue, Cannon Green. They showcased some of the most stunning bridal and bridesmaid gowns, including some illusion necklines, low backs, and pretty pastels. Needless to say, there were some serious crowd-pleasers! Almost as noteworthy as the ensembles in the fashion show were the bright and colorful looks from the guests – I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many spring prints and happy hues at an event, and I gotta say I was into it.

Since this was pretty much the first event of the spring season, not to mention one of the first warm days period, everyone in attendance was happy to shed their winter layers and show some skin. To celebrate this wave of spring weather, I went with a white floral shift dress with pops of blush and fuschia from Stylexchange. It’s one of those easy little pieces you can just throw on and go, and I’m seriously in love with the print. For a little contrast, I opted for electric cobalt pumps and a statement necklace with blues and greens to tie everything together. To top it off, I chose oversized sunnies, minimal jewelry, my go-to Clare V clutch, and a neon pink pout.

I wasn’t the only one who was channeling spring – nearly everyone there was decked out in bright colors, sweet pastels, and floral print. Check out some photos from the event below!
