Yours Truly

Y’all. It has been a wild 2017 so far. Can you tell by my little leave of absence there?! Oops! Part of the reason is because work (my *real* job) has been nuts and is currently sending me all over the place – and the rest is because of some very exciting news that I can’t wait to share shortly. I don’t want to give away too much yet, but some really fun things are coming to the blog soon, so please bear with me and my scarce posts for a bit!

Now onto sweeter things – like this Valentine’s Day look. When I discovered last year that I had absolutely no pink in my closet, I made a vow right then and there to change that. This bright pink turtleneck brought me from zero to Barbie in .5 seconds, and I can’t say I hate it. Sometimes I like to go subtle with my holiday outfits, but not this time. Although I went classic with dark jeans and neutral booties, I topped off this festive Valentine’s getup with a pop of leopard (duh), big sunnies, and a pair of statement earrings.

Happy Valentine’s Day, sweethearts! ❤

Giving Back with Betsy

It’s no surprise how much I love the holiday season. The music, the movies, the shopping, the parties – and as I get older, I find myself loving the feeling of giving more and more. Whether it’s the perfect gift for my sisters or donating gifts/time/money to someone in need, it makes the holidays feel even more special. If you’re looking for a way to give back this season, I can help with that. I’m partnering up with one of my favorite jewelry designers, Betsy Pittard Designs, to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network with her ‘B a Miracle’ campaign. Learn more and donate here!

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals works to increase funds and awareness for local children’s hospitals. Your donations would go to support research and training, purchase equipment, and pay for uncompensated care, all to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible. B a Miracle this season and help save some lives!

For my post about Betsy’s fundraiser, I knew I had to rep her jewels, so I modeled my look around this fab Betsy Pittard horn necklace. I went with one of my favorite color combos for this time of year, plum and mustard, pairing a pretty floral frock from Teal with my cozy longline Loft sweater. To top off the outfit, I opted for some black boho accessories, a few gold rings, and of course, the Betsy necklace.

Join me, Betsy, and the wonderful Children’s Miracle Network by giving back this Christmas right here. Thanks for reading!

Welcome to New York

Let me just start off by saying I’m not sorry for my cheesy blog post title – New York has been waiting for me. There isn’t much I don’t love about this city – the people, the food, the weather (I forgot what anything less than 100% humidity felt like), and of course, the fashion. I’ve been having so much fun stepping outside of my style comfort zone and taking a break from all the sweet, southern clothes in my closet. Don’t get me wrong – I love bright colors, floral prints and girlie silhouettes as much as the next gal – but sometimes muted hues and edgy pieces just speak to me. Enter: this little outfit.

Since I’ve been trying to avoid spending copious amounts of money during my month in the city (which is terrifyingly easy), I’ve been trying to focus on my cheap girl stores – Zara, Forever 21, the sale section at Topshop… you know how I do. I picked up this mock neck midi at Forever for less than $18 and decided that as much as I want to, I’ll never be able to raise my standards higher than good ole F21. You just can’t beat that, guys. This dress is chic, trendy, and SO comfortable – and when it goes out of style in a couple years, I won’t hate myself for spending too much money on it. Amirite?!

To add to the edge (and let’s be real, to cover up my NYC pizza-induced FUPA), I tied my jean jacket around my waist – 90s girl at heart. I finished off the look with a burgundy hat, round sunnies, gold jewelz, and Stan Smiths. I’ll be honest, it took me a little while to get on board with these retro Adidas due to the fact that I had them in 7th grade (see also: the return of jean skirts), but now that I have them, I don’t know how I ever didn’t have them. Speaking of saving money, I also bought the kids ones which saved me about $30. If you have creepily small feet like I do, alwayzzzz try kids sizes first. #insidertip

So here’s to cheap clothes that don’t look cheap, chillin in the kids department, and New York freaking City. Can I stay forever?

#SBScon Day 3: The Dress

For the #SBScon farewell breakfast, I decided to pull out this little baby – also known as “The Dress.” This pretty Topshop frock had been hanging in my closet waiting for the right moment since May, and finally we both knew it was time. What could be a better moment than breakfast at the beautiful Charleston Grill?

I topped off this look with nude lace up heels (with tassels!) and my magenta GiGi clutch to pop against the royal blue in my dress. Next, I went with my precious new pair of M&L pineapple earrings from Swell Caroline that I’m pretty sure I’ve worn every day since they arrived. Sidenote: if you’re looking for upscale yet affordable accessories, y’all have to check them out. Their stuff is so fun, colorful and southern – so of course I had to rock some at #SBScon! For the rest of my jewelry, I put on a few delicate gold bangles, my everyday midi rings, and even a couple flash tats for added sassiness. Last but not least, bright pink lips and coral nails – because there’s no such thing as too much color in the summer (or ever?!).

Since I usually wear my hair down and wavy, I decided to switch it up with milkmaid braids for this look. They were perfect for a Sunday morning brunch and most importantly, kept my hair out of my face while I was eating. Crucial.

…Because you can’t not twirl in the middle of the street in this dress. That’s a wrap on my #SBScon outfits, y’all! Stay tuned for a full recap of this blogger babe weekend next week!

If you read my blog, you probably know by now that I love Dandy Boutique. I’ve already featured it here and here and the love connection has only gotten stronger since then. When I found out that the sweet shop and I are birthday sisters (Dandy’s was yesterday and mine is Monday – close enough, right?), I loved it even more. So happy 1st birthday, Dandy, cheers to us!

When I saw this dress from Alice’s Pig at Dandy Boutique, it was all over. Alice’s Pig is a company out of London that is inspired by vintage style and Alice in Wonderland. Like, okay. I love the flattering shape, feminine neckline, and the exaggerated skirt – not to mention the fantastic print and material. Perfect for a birthday party! Or should I say, tea party?

Because this dress is so fabulous, I kept accessories to a minimum (shocking, I know). I went with some lace up heels, an envelope clutch, and retro round sunnies to go along with the vintage feel of the dress. As for my jewelry, I chose some Moon & Lola hashtag studs and rings to keep up the edgy vibe.

Head to Dandy Boutique to celebrate their 1st birthday and pick up some pretty little pieces like this one! Happy weekend y’all, and happy birthday weekend to me! XO

Floral + Fuschia

Last week I attended a bridal fashion show hosted by Maddison Row and Bella Bridesmaids at beautiful new Charleston venue, Cannon Green. They showcased some of the most stunning bridal and bridesmaid gowns, including some illusion necklines, low backs, and pretty pastels. Needless to say, there were some serious crowd-pleasers! Almost as noteworthy as the ensembles in the fashion show were the bright and colorful looks from the guests – I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many spring prints and happy hues at an event, and I gotta say I was into it.

Since this was pretty much the first event of the spring season, not to mention one of the first warm days period, everyone in attendance was happy to shed their winter layers and show some skin. To celebrate this wave of spring weather, I went with a white floral shift dress with pops of blush and fuschia from Stylexchange. It’s one of those easy little pieces you can just throw on and go, and I’m seriously in love with the print. For a little contrast, I opted for electric cobalt pumps and a statement necklace with blues and greens to tie everything together. To top it off, I chose oversized sunnies, minimal jewelry, my go-to Clare V clutch, and a neon pink pout.

I wasn’t the only one who was channeling spring – nearly everyone there was decked out in bright colors, sweet pastels, and floral print. Check out some photos from the event below!

Pumpkin Pickin’

Oh, fall. Is there anything better? Going to the pumpkin patch is always one of my favorite autumn activities — being able to pluck one right off the vine will always beat reaching into a box (sorry Trader Joe’s). When I heard there was a cold front coming into town, I knew it was time. No offense Charleston, but going to the pumpkin patch in 85 degree weather just feels wrong — not to mention the lack of boots, scarves, and sweaters. So on this slightly chilly, DIVINE fall day, we ventured over to Boone Hall Plantation for pumpkin pickin’.

For our day at the pumpkin patch, I went with the quintessential fall outfit. Some might call it the basic bitch’s fall uniform, I call it situational dressing. I started out the look with a navy + white striped top, distressed skinny jeans, and my Fryes. To accessorize, I threw on a plaid scarf for a little print mixing, my favorite fur vest, classic aviators, and my go-to gold jewelry (let’s ignore my super trendy neon orange entry band). To top it off, I rocked cranberry lips + OPI’s ‘Big Apple Red’ on my nails — my fall favorites!

If you live in Charleston, you need to go to the Boone Hall Pumpkin Patch immediately. They had a petting zoo (PIGLET ALERT), sno cones, a JUMPING PILLOW, a corn maze, hayrides, slides, and lots more. It’s great if you have kids or if you are a kid (like me and my sister who did every single thing imaginable). Take a look at some of my favorite photos from the day below!

{ i told y’all we did every single thing there. this was soy important. }

Adored in Co-Ords

Two-piece sets, separates, co-ords — we all might have different names for this matchy-matchy trend, but we can all agree that this is one of the biggest fads of the season. Although crop tops & high-waisted bottoms have been huge for a while now, matching sets present a fun new twist for the fashion-forward.

It took me months to find the perfect co-ords. Granted I was very picky and knew exactly what I was looking for, but still. Finally one fateful evening I wandered into Francesca’s and our eyes met (me and the two-piece, obvi) — needless to say it was love at first sight. Separates are cool because you have to put zero thought into your outfit, which is v necessary for this lazy gal. Not only can you wear the set together, you can mix and match with high waisted jorts and a cardi for a cHiLL dAy, or sass it up with a leather skater skirt for a night out. Basically, what I’m saying is you can totally justify spending more than a week’s groceries on your matching set since you’ll get so many outfits out of it. Right?

Since separates are such a statement alone, I kept accessories fairly simple. I went with black ankle strap heels, gold-rimmed sunnies, a gold studded bracelet, and some of my fave rings. For a little color, I chose a neon yellow satchel to really pop against the black, white, and gold. As for the pineapple, it was sitting majestically on my kitchen counter before I left for my shoot so I grabbed it for a fun prop on the way out. Pineapples are so hot right now. Also they’re $2.99 at Trader Joe’s.

Recognize the street art? We used a different wall as the backdrop for my CSS x SF shoot a while back, but I couldn’t stay away from this mural. It was just a no-brainer for the background of this look. Shepard Fairey is da

Dying to find the perfect matching set of your own? Take a look at these, these, and these. Oh yeah, and these.

Trend Watch: Tropical Print

One of the biggest trends of this season is tropical print everything. A fun, summery spin on classic floral (also huge right now), tropical print has been everywhere from the runway to Forever 21. If you can get past your dad’s old Hawaiian shirts and cheesy beach motel decor from the 90s, this will be your favorite fad of the summer. Something about it just makes me want to lay in a hammock on an island somewhere and sip a piña colada out of a coconut. Can’t you just hear the steel drums? Just me? K.

Ready to dive in to this trend like it’s the infinity pool at your Caribbean resort? Try it with a statement piece like a romper, skirt, or high-waisted pants. If you’re a little more hesitant, test it out with accessories first, such as jewelry, shoes, or your iPhone case. Another way to ease into the island-inspired trend is to rock a pineapple print. Pineapples are all over the place this summer and I’m not mad about it. Try this fruity fad with some of the pieces pictured above, such as the adorable clutch or fun crop top.

So let’s pretend that back-to-school commercials aren’t already on and rock this warm-weather trend until the leaves change. Except leaves don’t really change in Charleston, awk.

Where to find: romper (casual) | flats | pineapple bag | iPhone case | trousers | swimsuit | crop top | scrunchie | toucan studs | pencil skirt | romper (dressy)

Want to browse more tropical print items? Stores such as Asos, Topshop, H&M, and Nasty Gal are all about the “just-got-back-from-vacay” look right now — so much so that it was hard to even narrow it down to my selection above!

Steal of the Week: Woven Tribal Print Sandals

Target is one of my absolute favorite places to find affordable yet adorable clothes and accessories, so I wasn’t too surprised to find these little gems in the shoe section. These sandals come in three colors, but I’m absolutely obsessed with the woven tribal print ones. They’re perfect for summer (I know I know, the first day of spring was like a week ago) and are super versatile. For only $19.99, these stunners can be yours! Click here to scoop up a pair now.

Although these snazzy sandals can be worn day or night, on errands or to bars, they give me a distinct festival vibe. You probably have your outfits picked out for Ultra this weekend (and let’s be real, this outfit isn’t Ultra material), but this look just screams Coachella or Bonnaroo. Since the shoes have so many colors happening, I chose a simple & breezy black maxi. To accessorize, I went with a fun fringe bag, tortoiseshell sunnies, a gold pyramid stud bracelet, and a cross ring. For a good pop of color, I picked some bright drop earrings and turquoise nails. Check out my fab festival outfit below!
