Bell Sleeves for Fall

I bought this sweet little sweater during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale over the summer, and now it’s finally cool enough to wear it in DC! It is so incredibly soft, goes with everything, and the bell sleeves are such a fun addition. Now I want it in every color!

Next up in this look: my favorite distressed white skinnies (now on sale!). Because I’m anti-Labor Day laws, I love wearing my white jeans well into fall – and as great as this sweater looks with regular denim, it really pops against the white. As for the rest of my outfit, I opted for these peep toe booties which have been on major repeat, and my go-to embroidered crossbody. I accessorized with rose gold sunnies and these layered necklaces from Baublebar, which I’ve honestly been wearing probably too much this fall. Oops! *insert shrug emoji*

Happy weekend, friends!

Sweater: Nordstrom | Jeans: J Brand | Shoes: Amazon | Crossbody Bag: Francesca’s | Sunglasses: Amazon | Necklaces: Baublebar | Earrings: Forever 21 | Rings: Baublebar | Lips: NYX (‘Pale Pink’) | Nails: Essie (‘Bahama Mama’)

Lady in Yellow

So I’ve never been a big yellow wearer, but I could not say no to this happy little maxi dress. I love that it’s wrap-style (hellooo flattering!), and the fluttery sleeves are such a fun touch.

To accessorize, I went with my new favorite peep toe booties for fall (from none other than Amazon, what?!), my basket bag, and round sunnies. I topped off the look with a gold choker, ear crawlers, my favorite rings, an oxblood lip, and of course, a topknot.

Dress: Lulu’s | Shoes: Amazon | Bag: Ellen & James | Sunglasses: Ray Ban | Choker: Baublebar | Earrings: Forever 21 | Rings: Baublebar | Bangles: c/o Moon & Lola | Lips: MAC (‘Studded Kiss’)| Nails: Essie (‘Topless & Barefoot’)

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Well, it only took us until the middle of May to get rid of the “April” showers and finally bring some spring! What better way to ring in the warmer weather than a trip to a tulip farm? I headed out to Burnside Farms (yep, same as the sunflower farm you saw here!) to pick some fresh blooms and have a little picnic with my pals. Okay, so maybe we just went to the hot dog stand – but we ate them at a picnic table so that’s the same, right?

For my frolic in the flower fields, I went with a white dress with some colorful floral embroidery (never one to stray away from situational dressing). Like many other bloggers/everyone on your insta feed, I too fell in love with the very similar Free People frock – but I wanted the embroidery color from the black dress put on the white dress! Leave it to one of my favorite boutiques, Tres Carmen, to carry an almost-identical dress with my dream color combo – and at half the price! To accessorize, I opted for these comfy espadrilles (a crazy-good dupe for the Marc Fisher ones), giant tassel earrings, round sunnies, and some delicate gold jewelry. And of course, a sweet little basket to carry my blossoms ❤

Hope you all are enjoying some beautiful spring weather!

5 Fall Trends Under $50

autumn
Today marks the first official day of my absolute favorite season; it’s finally fall, y’all!  I just can’t get enough of leather, fur, flannel, boots, sweaters, scarves — you name it. Although this post doesn’t need much of an explanation, today I’m featuring five fads of the season that won’t cost your whole paycheck. Usually with very trendy, seasonal pieces, I don’t like to spend much more than $50 if it’s going to go out of style mere months later (lookin’ at you, mullet skirts). Check out my picks below! NOTE: Not to be worn together — like please don’t.
5_Fall_Trends

  1. Cobalt Hat – You all know how much I love floppy hats. Add cobalt to the mix and I’m sold.
  2. Leather Skirt – Leather was huge last fall, and now it’s back, back again (tell a friend). I love this flouncy little skirt from Old Navy — although the shape may remind you of your Abercrombie skirts circa 2003, it’s now very fall 2014.
  3. Leopard Sneakers – Speaking of leather, check out the faux leather trim on these sassy leopard sneakers. They’re the perfect accessory to edge up your t-shirt + jeans weekend uniform.
  4. 360 Studs – I’m absolutely loving the front-back earring trend. The pearl version is nice and classic, but I’m also v into the pavé pair here and spike version here.
  5. Fringe Bag – Fringe is also pretty may-jah this season. Go big with a fringe-trim fall floral kimono if you’re feeling frisky; if you’re more hestitant, test the waters with the bag shown above.

Steal of the Week: Old Navy Floppy Hat

cn8035943
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again — Old Navy is absolutely killing it right now. Everything is, like, always on sale, and they’re really good about keeping up with the latest fads. The floppy hat trend really soared last fall and winter, and I’m so glad it’s back for round two this year. Colors like brown and black are great because they go with pretty much anything, but this wine-colored one from Old Navy is kind of major. Since the floppy hat trend is just that — a trend — I’m not really down to spend more than $30 max on one. The fact that this hat is a mere $19.94 not only makes it the perfect SOTW, but also won’t cause buyer’s remorse when it inevitably goes out of style. Better yet, online at Old Navy right now, take 30% off regular price items and an additional 15% off sale items!* Click here to grab a hat of your own now.
*UPDATE: In stores and online at Old Navy, everything is up to 50% off through Labor Day Weekend!

When styling a look for this hat, I incorporated a couple of my other favorite fall trends: distressed jeans, exposed zippers, black + white, fringe, booties, and pattern mixing. To start the outfit off, I chose a colorblocked black & white top, boyfriend jeans, and zip-up booties. For a chillier day, I also think throwing on a camo utility jacket would add a cool vibe. To accessorize, I went with a colorful statement necklace to pop against the black & white top, a gold chain-link watch (MK knockoff for only $25 — just got one myself!), and a leopard clutch for a little pattern mixing with the camo. To top it all off, I love orange lips for fall (and the bright color will look divine with the darker hue of the hat), and there’s nothing chicer than a sleek black mani.

Color of the Moment: Navy

Color_of_Moment_Navy
One color that I just can’t get enough of this summer is navy blue. Whether you’re going for a sweet & nautical look with a navy striped sweater or a dark & sultry look with a navy jumpsuit, this hue is hitting it out of the park this season. Navy goes with absolutely everything, it’s flattering on everyone, and it’s a great alternative to black for the warmer months. I kind of consider navy as black’s friendlier sister.

Another great thing about navy is that it’s the perfect color to transition from summer to fall. I know, I know, we aren’t ready to talk about fall yet — but around this point in the summer I try to stop buying such summery clothes and focus on getting more transitional pieces. Yes that neon floral skater skirt is adorable now, but am I going to be wearing it past Labor Day? Probs not.

I’m not trying to say navy is the new black (nothing ever will be), I’m just saying it’s close. Check out some of my favorite navy picks below!

What To Wear On July 4th

e75e30c040c0b0d096ad340c586c6e6e
The 4th of July is THIS weekend, people, so it’s definitely not too soon to be planning your outfit(s). Similar to your Memorial Day ensemble, you want to look patriotic but not over-the-top, adorable yet effortless, and totally unique at the same time. Usually my WTW posts have several outfit options based on what your plans are, but I feel like we’re all pretty much on the same page for Independence Day. Day drinking in a friend’s backyard or out on the boat/beach/pool, followed by a night out — if you can wake up from your mid-afternoon Budweiser/sunburn induced coma-nap, that is.

Because we all basically do the same thing on the 4th, I created outfits based on the look you’re going for. So whether you want to wErQ a new trend, go with a classic all-American girl feel, or anything in between, I gotchu.

White Hot Trendsetter
1b053b8381b2bcef6482b23cf3dd5190
This outfit combines a few major trends in a completely effortless, breezy way that says “oh I just threw this on in five minutes” (even if it took you 2 hours to get ready). I’m a huge sucker for the “all white everything” look, so I picked a casual white crochet halter dress and white, metal-plated sandals. Head-to-toe white is v huge for summer, as are metallics — so putting them together is pretty much magical. I topped off the outfit with blue mirrored sunnies, a floral crossbody, midi rings, and red lips. This look combines a bunch of super trendy pieces, but in a way that doesn’t look like you’re trying way too hard. It’s also just patriotic enough (but not Uncle Sam status), making it a good option for those who want to be subtly festive.

Playful & Fun
184c51fe205fed86aee2bbba913f1ad2
This look is perfect for a backyard BBQ with your frandz — it’s cute, trendy and fun, and not overly patriotic. I started off the look with overall shorts, which are everywhere right now, then paired them with a cropped crochet bustier and adorable red bow flats. To accessorize, I went with heart-shaped sunnies, summery lemon wedge earrings, and red nails.

Classic Americana
03d328cdda745aec4d6f6eb6d988d91a
If you’re going for total all-American girl, this is the look for you. Throw on a vintage Coca-Cola tank, find some flag cutoffs on Etsy (or DIY your own with my quick & easy tutorial here!), then top it off with a red bandana headband, tortoiseshell clubmasters, and these trendy, white slip-on sandals. This easy outfit is ideal for day drinking, bar crawling, worn overtop of your swimsuit at a pool party — you name it. Cue Tom Petty.

Glam Firecracker

4592b52d897de40d64f55eff8010d53c
This is a great look if you’re skipping the daytime activities and want a sexier outfit for a night on the town. I found this red hot romper that’s perfect for the 4th, then paired it with nude cutout heels and a bedazzled clutch. As for accessories, I chose deep blue drop earrings, a rose gold snake ring (that I need immediately), festive nail polish, and navy blue eyeliner that will pop against the red romper amazingly.

Preppy Chic
ef5366afec58bfe02047c591c5e2018d
If you’re looking to take the more classic/preppy route, I’m in love with this mismatched prints ensemble. If it looks familiar, it’s because I took a similar outfit from my Memorial Day post and amped it up with a more summertime vibe. I just can’t get enough of this chambray top and felt the need to use it again — this time with red and white striped shorts and tan wedges. To top it off, I went with good old fashioned aviators, a simple crossbody bag, nautical knot studs, a classic gold watch, and bright white nails.

Which look is your favorite? Comment below!

Where to find:
crochet dress | white sandals | blue aviators | floral crossbody | midi rings | red lipstick
overall shorts | crochet bustier | bow flats | heart sunnies | lemon earrings | nail lacquer
crop top | flag cutoffs | tortoiseshell clubmasters | red bandana | white sandals
ruffle romper | cutout heels | sequin clutch | drop earrings | snake ring | navy eyeliner | nail lacquer
chambray top | striped shorts | tan wedges | black aviatorstan crossbody | knot studs | gold watch | nail lacquer

Big Bees + Little Bees

Bee_Bonnet
If you’ve ever heard the phrase “you’ve got a bee in your bonnet,” you probably have a few Southern relatives and/or you’re a lot like me. This idiom just means that you’re obsessing over something you can’t get out of your head. Growing up, my mom often said this to me and my sisters, and it was almost always about shopping. One of us had most likely seen something adorable at a store and didn’t buy it, then spent the rest of the day talking about how we needed to go back and get it. Different scenarios include: seeing something online for 40% off and thinking/talking about it until you order it, or asking a girl at Starbucks where she got her dress and then worrying if the boutique still has it, when you’ll have time to get there, etc. Some may call this “OCD” or “a shopping addiction,” but welcome to your new favorite euphemism, a bee in your bonnet.

My sisters and I took this to a whole new level by making lists of the bees in our respective bonnets, based on how much we needed them. These lists soon became “Big Bees” and “Little Bees.” Big Bees are items you need RIGHT THIS INSTANT, like that necklace on sale, the newest Naked palette, or a dress for an upcoming event. Little Bees aren’t as crucial, or are more long-term, expensive items that you know are a little unrealistic to purchase right away. I once even made a “Queen Bees” list of things I needed like yesterday, but that got too dangerous. I keep my bees lists as notes on my phone so that when I’m shopping, I don’t buy (too many) things I don’t need; I can focus on getting things that I know I’ve been wanting. Call me crazy, but it (probably) totally saves money — or just makes me want more things, whatever.

When there’s a major holiday coming up such as Christmas or, more importantly, one of our birthdays, my sisters and I sometimes ask each other to share our bees lists to get gift ideas. See? It’s a good idea and you know it. You’ve probably even stopped reading this and are making lists of your own. Check out my bees below!
Big_Bees
Big Bees:

  • Neon Blazer: Imagine this neon pink number layered on top of a white summer dress. Need I say more?
  • Floral Skater Skirt: Floral print is huge for spring/summer 2014, and skater skirts are having a major moment as well. Pair them both together and it’s magic.
  • Nala Necklace: An elephant charm meets an initial pendant. Moon and Lola, you’ve done it again.
  • Cute One-Piece: One-pieces no longer have to mean you’re overweight and/or have had 12 kids. I saw this one last week at the Marysia Swim event and it gave me a serious bee in my bonnet.
  • Mint Workout Pants: I feel like these will give me the motivation to work out. If not, they’ll make great pants to catch up on my DVR.
  • Drop Earrings: The only earrings I wear are studs aka I need to up my game.
  • Essie Fashion Playground: My favorite hue from Essie’s Spring 2014 Collection and possibly one of her best names yet.
  • Summer Maxi Dress: Bright colors, fun print, and a back cutout? I will live in this dress this summer.
  • Palazzo Pants: I’ve been searching for the perfect palazzos that don’t make me look like a clown at the circus — these could be it.
  • Cutout Sandals: How stunning would these be with my skater skirt? They’re basically a package deal.
  • Everyday Wedge: My wedges have seen better days; they’ve been through college parties, walked infinite distances on shopping trips and to/from the bar… It’s time to swap them out for these beauties.
  • Black Sun Hat: Recently I’ve been afraid of wrinkled/the sun, so this is a responsible investment. Also, picture it with the black one-piece — so chic it hurts.
  • Fit Bit: If I had this, I’d be able to tell you the exact quantitative data for the “infinite distances” mentioned above.
  • Printed Crop Top: This is perhaps a want, not a need, but just look at it!

Little_Bees
Little Bees:

  • Mirrored Ray Ban Aviators: I do already have Ray Ban aviators, demoting these to the Little Bees list, but they’re beautiful and I need them so they’re on here.
  • Mara Hoffman Dress: I’m recently obsessed with everything Mara Hoffman. I saw this marvelous maxi at Charleston Fashion Week and I’ve been daydreaming about it ever since.
  • Louis Vuitton Speedy: Of course I have enough purses, so this isn’t a time-sensitive Bee, but it’s something I need at some point.
  • Tailored Chambray Shirt: I have an oversized chambray shirt that I pretty much live in, but I want a more tailored one that can be dressed up a little more.
  • Everyday Sandals: During the summer, I whittle my poor sandals down to scraps. I need a good, sturdy pair to replace some of my borderline-broken ones when that fateful time comes.
  • Nars Lipstick in Schiap: I’ve been meaning to try this color forever, but my lips kind of hate lipstick so it will remain a Little Bee until my dermatologist can work her magical healing powers.
  • Michael Kors Chain Link Watch: I’ve had the blonde tortoise MK watch for years, but I’m over it. Don’t you wish Michael had a trade-in option?!
  • Perfect Trench: This is something every woman needs. Not a pressing issue, but sometime in the near to distant future.
  • Long Necklace: I recently realized that I only buy short, bib-type necklaces. Perfect excuse to get more jewelry!
  • Black Jumpsuit: This will be perfect to dress up or down this summer — I just haven’t found the right one.
  • Big Girl Camera: This big-ticket item should probably be moved up to my Big Bees list. I’m a blogger for goodness sake — this is a necessity.
  • They’re Real Mascara: I’ve heard amazing things about this mascara but I’m waiting until my current mascara runs out to purchase. See guys, I’m frugal!
  • David Yurman Buckle Bracelet: I really want this, but it’s way overpriced a little expensive, so it will have to sit in purgatory as a Little Bee until I win the lottery.
  • Valentino Rockstud Slingbacks: See “lottery” comment.

This blog post may make you think I’m a materialistic shopaholic, but no, I’m just a fashion blogger. We possess the blessing/curse of having to think about this stuff. I just think these lists are a great way to organize my wants & needs so I don’t buy unnecessary things.

What are some of your biggest bees?

Steal of the Week: Woven Tribal Print Sandals

14954063_Alt01_201311081253
Target is one of my absolute favorite places to find affordable yet adorable clothes and accessories, so I wasn’t too surprised to find these little gems in the shoe section. These sandals come in three colors, but I’m absolutely obsessed with the woven tribal print ones. They’re perfect for summer (I know I know, the first day of spring was like a week ago) and are super versatile. For only $19.99, these stunners can be yours! Click here to scoop up a pair now.

Although these snazzy sandals can be worn day or night, on errands or to bars, they give me a distinct festival vibe. You probably have your outfits picked out for Ultra this weekend (and let’s be real, this outfit isn’t Ultra material), but this look just screams Coachella or Bonnaroo. Since the shoes have so many colors happening, I chose a simple & breezy black maxi. To accessorize, I went with a fun fringe bag, tortoiseshell sunnies, a gold pyramid stud bracelet, and a cross ring. For a good pop of color, I picked some bright drop earrings and turquoise nails. Check out my fab festival outfit below!
