Giving Back with Betsy

IMG_6553

It’s no surprise how much I love the holiday season. The music, the movies, the shopping, the parties – and as I get older, I find myself loving the feeling of giving more and more. Whether it’s the perfect gift for my sisters or donating gifts/time/money to someone in need, it makes the holidays feel even more special. If you’re looking for a way to give back this season, I can help with that. I’m partnering up with one of my favorite jewelry designers, Betsy Pittard Designs, to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network with her ‘B a Miracle’ campaign. Learn more and donate here!

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals works to increase funds and awareness for local children’s hospitals. Your donations would go to support research and training, purchase equipment, and pay for uncompensated care, all to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible. B a Miracle this season and help save some lives!

For my post about Betsy’s fundraiser, I knew I had to rep her jewels, so I modeled my look around this fab Betsy Pittard horn necklace. I went with one of my favorite color combos for this time of year, plum and mustard, pairing a pretty floral frock from Teal with my cozy longline Loft sweater. To top off the outfit, I opted for some black boho accessories, a few gold rings, and of course, the Betsy necklace.

Cool for the Summer {+ Labor Day Weekend Sales!}

Smithphotos+ink-16

So even though it won’t actually feel like fall in Charleston until Thanksgiving, probably, we technically say farewell to summer this weekend. That means I can squeeze in one last summer post before Labor Day, right? My goodbye summer outfit features some of my favorite seasonal trends – a Panama hat, mirrored sunnies, an off the shoulder top, and denim cutoffs. So before we delve into chunky sweaters, leather booties, and felt hats (okay, did anyone else just get really excited for fall clothes?!), let’s pretend summer never has to end.

Smithphotos+ink-2

I’m sure y’all recognized this top right away from the one and only Chiara Ferragni. She wore this floral off the shoulder top with its matching skirt at Coachella, and I was astonished (I’m dramatic) when I found out it was H&M. A couple months ago, I came across this top in a corner of the H&M outlet at Tanger for like $5, so clearly I went for it. Anything to be more like Chiara, amirite y’all? I paired the top with my go-to cutoff Levi’s (made from vintage mom jeans by yours truly!), a Panama hat, and these incredible rockstud sandal dupes for the perfect ~cool for the summer~ look.

Smithphotos+ink-5

Smithphotos+ink-7

To accessorize, I once again opted for my tortoise mirrored sunnies, then kept the rest minimal with my Daniel Wellington watch, a dainty Moon & Lola bracelet, and a few midi rings.

City Girl

IMG_6387

To totally switch gears from my last post, here’s a little explosion of color and patterns to brighten up your Tuesday! One of my first days in the city, I went shopping (duh) and this midi skirt was the first thing I bought. I laid eyes on it from across the room at H&M, tried it on in the middle of the store over all my clothes, and the rest was history. I know dressing in all black is like a thing in the city, but I just couldn’t resist this colorful mismatched ensemble. Sue me, y’all.

IMG_6378

IMG_6384

IMG_6397

When it came to styling this skirt, I immediately knew I wanted a striped crop top to wear with it. You would think in NYC it would be really easy to find something so simple, but nope, not so much. It actually wasn’t until I stumbled upon a little boutique in Williamsburg that I found the perfect top. (Thanks Pema New York!) Seriously if you’re ever in the neighborhood (or even if you’re not), you gotta make a pit stop there. For the rest of my look, I went with simple white heels, a bright coral bag for one last pop of color, and my mirrored tortoise sunnies.

IMG_6415

IMG_6392

IMG_6410

IMG_6395

As for accessories, I went glam with these fab iridescent Moon & Lola earrings, but kept the rest minimal with just a few gold rings and no bracelets (!!). To top it all off, I opted for bright red nails (Big Apple Red, of course) and coral lips. Sometimes you just gotta go matchy-matchy with your lips, nails, and bag – aka it was a total accident/coincidence, but it kinda works, right?

I’ll leave y’all with a fake ~hailing a cab~ photo to celebrate the fact that I became a pro at it. It’s those small victories, ya know? Miss you already, NYC!

#SBScon Day 2: Rompin’ Around

wrist

Day 2 of #SBScon involved a few presentations from some impressive creatives, a good amount of note-taking, and lots of networking with fabulous brands. After that we were free to play, so I wanted my outfit to be a pretty versatile. I decided to go with this colorful romper (again from the rockstars at Lily Rain), and topped it off with a white blazer for a more professional look. Best part? It was SO comfy! Check out some details below.

I accessorized with simple white heels (which are such a great dupe of these btw), my go-to Clare V. clutch, and these amazing reflective tortoiseshell keyhole sunnies (that are now majorly on sale!). For my jewelry, Moon & Lola hooked me up with these fabulous drop earrings, and I finished off the look with gold bangles and a few midi rings.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again – I live for finding pieces that look super chic but feel like pajamas. This two piece set from MINK PINK was not only one of my favorite things I wore to fashion week, but by far the most comfortable. Don’t you just love when that happens? This crop top + shorts combo came in a very edgy version of one of my favorite spring prints, gingham, making it the perfect ensemble for Friday night of CFW. Although this matching set can easily be dressed up or down (I wore it earlier that day with high top sneakers), I decided to jazz it up with tailored white blazer and black heels. I accessorized with some funky gold-rimmed shades, a feminine shoulder bag courtesy of StyleDwell, a stunning lucite statement necklace courtesy of The Impeccable Pig, and my go-to rings and hashtag studs from Moon & Lola. I topped off this polished look with a subtle peach gloss and a rare straight hair moment (!), and I was ready for Friday night at the tents.

What to Wear on Valentine’s (& Galentine’s!) Day

78034780

Can you believe it’s almost Valentine’s Day? Ugh I know, #shitgirlssay, but seriously! This day of lurrrrve falls on a Saturday this year (!) so you can make all kinds of plans. However, the thing about plans is that they come with many outfit decisions. Bummer. Lucky for you, I adore the commercialism of Valentine’s Day a regretful amount and like to spend my time decorating my apartment with hearts and candy and curating festive yet subtle V-Day outfits. YOU’RE WELCOME. See what you think below!

Date Night

Who says you have to wear pink or red on Valentine’s Day? This year, opt for a pale lavender instead. Not only is lavender having a major moment right now, but it’s such a breath of fresh air from those obvious V-Day colors. I’m so in love with this precious scalloped shift dress – it’s feminine, flattering and oh-so perfect for a date with your boo thang. Slip on some delicate nude heels (currently having a love affair with Shoemint), accessorize with a pastel statement necklace and a little heart ring, then top off the look with kissable pink lips and bright red nails – hey, I didn’t say there would be no pink and red at all. Before you head out the door, spritz on your most romantic perfume (one of my faves is Chance) and you’re good to go.

Galentine’s Day
ValentinesDay2

If you don’t celebrate Galentine’s Day, you need to make it a tradition starting now. According to Queen Leslie Knope, Galentine’s Day takes place on February 13th every year and gives you the chance to celebrate the real loves of your life, your lady friends. Me and my galz typically drink margs and eat our body weight in Mexican food, but to each her own. ANYWAY, since there will be no boys there to judge your weird trendy outfit #storyofmylife, break out all the fun fads – graphic tees, distressed boyfriend jeans (the ones above are called “ex-boyfriend jeans” – teehee), a peplum leather jacket… The possibilities are endless. Accessorize with some festive two-tone pumps, colorful cluster studs, and pretty gold jewelry. (Sidenote: I just got that Gorjana bracelet in my Rocksbox and I CANNOT stop wearing it – more on that soon.) If you’re really feeling sassy, and I hope that you are, go bold with a neon pink lip. My coworker (hi Liz) always wears the most incredible lipsticks and introduced me to NYX matte lipstick in ‘Shocking Pink’ – and it has kind of changed my life. It’s the perfect bright Barbie pink and stays on for 234809258 hours. Bonus: if you’re looking a little hungover tired in the morning, swipe some on and you’ll immediately look awake and alive, even if you feel like death. Wait, why am I talking about death in my Valentine’s Day post?

Okay so now that your outfit is taken care of, it’s time to think about a valentine card to give your person. It can also double as a gift if it’s frame-worthy and you’re poor (aka me). Whether it’s for your best pal, your fam, or your dude, here are a few of my favorite *not your average* valentines:

What To Wear On Thanksgiving

dandy-boutique-fall-lookbook-78

Thanksgiving can be one of the toughest holidays to dress for. Depending on your plans, you want to look cute but at the same time be super comfy, and anything even remotely restricting is completely out of the question. My problem is usually going for total comfort (and an elastic waistband, OBVI) but not looking 100% homeless. So whether you’re going to your guy’s house for the first time, having friendsgiving with your pals, or just hanging at home, I’ve got your outfit covered.

Meeting Your Man’s Fam
Thanksgiving2

When you have to look presentable, but still want to be able to load up on the carbs, dresses are an obvious choice. I love this cowl-neck sweater dress — it’s so unbelievably cozy, lets your food baby breathe (while concealing it!), and looks totally put-together. I paired it with some Frye boots, a leopard print clutch, tortoiseshell studs, a classic watch, and some fally nails. Eat your heart out, future in-laws.

Sweater Dress | Cognac Boots | Leopard Clutch | Tortoiseshell Studs | Leather Watch | Nail Lacquer

Friendsgiving With Pals
Thanksgiving1

If you’re having Friendsgiving, go for a fun and trendy look. Again, to let your food baby grow and prosper, opt for a dress, like this fun printed shift. Pair with a fur vest and black over-the-knee boots to really amp up the trendiness, then add on some wishbone studs (get it?!), a fun bracelet, and some red lipstick for a pop of color.

Shift Dress | Fur Vest | Over-The-Knee Boots |  Wishbone Studs | Pave Link Bracelet | Red Lipstick

Home For The Holidays
Thanksgiving3

For those of us who stay home with our families for Thanksgiving, the common issue is usually “what do I wear that feels like PJs, but isn’t PJs?” Finding something that you can lounge around the house in while not looking like a hobo can be a grueling task. I picked out an oversized, off-the-shoulder sweater, some nice and stretchy Lululemon wunder unders, and my all time favorite footwear, LL Bean’s Wicked Good Moccasins. To top it off, throw on a plaid blanket scarf, cozy cable knit socks, a burgundy beanie, and fun little spoon & fork studs. And if you’re hungover from the biggest bar night of the year, you’ll need a bottomless cup of coffee.

Notcho Poncho

IMG_3896

It took a while for me to get on board with ponchos, but now I don’t know how I ever questioned it. Despite the fact that I sort of feel like a Colombian man riding his burro, this is one of my favorite fall wardrobe additions. It was an excellent *MaXxiNisTa* find that’s acceptable enough to leave the house in, but comfy enough to live in — and that’s all I’ve ever wanted. It also doesn’t hurt that it was originally $120 and I got it for a sweet sweet $25. #bargainhunter4lyfe

When it came to styling this pretty poncho, I kept things fairly simple. Skinny jeans, Frye boots, and a pop of blue with my mirrored sunnies. I accessorized with a fun little tassel necklace (give me all the tassels this fall), some B&B bangles, a blingy bracelet, and simple gold rings. Last but not least, it just wouldn’t be right without a messy topknot. Hello, head honcho poncho.

If it weren’t for the Peruvian princess pattern, this shoot would kind of scream Coldwater Creek — but I just can’t help how much I love fall (WE KNOW, CHLOE). I was lucky enough to run home to Virginia for a few days during the the peak of autumn, and it was kind of the best thing ever.

5 Fall Trends Under $50

autumn
Today marks the first official day of my absolute favorite season; it’s finally fall, y’all!  I just can’t get enough of leather, fur, flannel, boots, sweaters, scarves — you name it. Although this post doesn’t need much of an explanation, today I’m featuring five fads of the season that won’t cost your whole paycheck. Usually with very trendy, seasonal pieces, I don’t like to spend much more than $50 if it’s going to go out of style mere months later (lookin’ at you, mullet skirts). Check out my picks below! NOTE: Not to be worn together — like please don’t.
5_Fall_Trends

  1. Cobalt Hat – You all know how much I love floppy hats. Add cobalt to the mix and I’m sold.
  2. Leather Skirt – Leather was huge last fall, and now it’s back, back again (tell a friend). I love this flouncy little skirt from Old Navy — although the shape may remind you of your Abercrombie skirts circa 2003, it’s now very fall 2014.
  3. Leopard Sneakers – Speaking of leather, check out the faux leather trim on these sassy leopard sneakers. They’re the perfect accessory to edge up your t-shirt + jeans weekend uniform.
  4. 360 Studs – I’m absolutely loving the front-back earring trend. The pearl version is nice and classic, but I’m also v into the pavé pair here and spike version here.
  5. Fringe Bag – Fringe is also pretty may-jah this season. Go big with a fringe-trim fall floral kimono if you’re feeling frisky; if you’re more hestitant, test the waters with the bag shown above.

What do you think? Comment your 5 picks below!

Steal of the Week: Old Navy Floppy Hat

cn8035943
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again — Old Navy is absolutely killing it right now. Everything is, like, always on sale, and they’re really good about keeping up with the latest fads. The floppy hat trend really soared last fall and winter, and I’m so glad it’s back for round two this year. Colors like brown and black are great because they go with pretty much anything, but this wine-colored one from Old Navy is kind of major. Since the floppy hat trend is just that — a trend — I’m not really down to spend more than $30 max on one. The fact that this hat is a mere $19.94 not only makes it the perfect SOTW, but also won’t cause buyer’s remorse when it inevitably goes out of style. Better yet, online at Old Navy right now, take 30% off regular price items and an additional 15% off sale items!* Click here to grab a hat of your own now.
*UPDATE: In stores and online at Old Navy, everything is up to 50% off through Labor Day Weekend!

When styling a look for this hat, I incorporated a couple of my other favorite fall trends: distressed jeans, exposed zippers, black + white, fringe, booties, and pattern mixing. To start the outfit off, I chose a colorblocked black & white top, boyfriend jeans, and zip-up booties. For a chillier day, I also think throwing on a camo utility jacket would add a cool vibe. To accessorize, I went with a colorful statement necklace to pop against the black & white top, a gold chain-link watch (MK knockoff for only $25 — just got one myself!), and a leopard clutch for a little pattern mixing with the camo. To top it all off, I love orange lips for fall (and the bright color will look divine with the darker hue of the hat), and there’s nothing chicer than a sleek black mani.

Floppy Hat: Old Navy | Fringe Top: H&M | Boyfriend Jeans: Forever 21 | Booties: Sole Society | Jacket: Old Navy | Leopard Clutch: Madewell | Necklace: BaubleBar | Watch: Forever 21 | Lip Color: Clinique | Nail Lacquer: Essie

Would you wear this SOTW?
