Happy Thanksgiving Y’all

Sometimes you just don’t mess with perfection, and the classic Thanksgiving outfit is one of them. If you ask me, the ideal Thanksgiving outfit algorithm is an oversized sweater, stretchy jeans (give me all the pie), and a plaid blanket scarf. Done and done. If I were just going to be snuggling up at home I would throw on my favorite slippers and swap my sunnies for my spectacles, but for a more social outing I like to jazz it up a bit (duh).

To avoid looking like a little troll getting ready to hibernate for the winter, first I did some serious elongating with these amazing OTK boots. Taking this cozy outfit on the road to glam, I also went with my leopard clutch, tortoise shades, tassel earrings, and favorite fall lip kit.

Are you going comfy-cozy or dolled up this Thanksgiving? As usual, I’ll probably be a combo of both. Hey, on Thanksgiving, we don’t have to choose. That’s why I’ll be having both apple and pumpkin pie. #blessed

Yours Truly

Y’all. It has been a wild 2017 so far. Can you tell by my little leave of absence there?! Oops! Part of the reason is because work (my *real* job) has been nuts and is currently sending me all over the place – and the rest is because of some very exciting news that I can’t wait to share shortly. I don’t want to give away too much yet, but some really fun things are coming to the blog soon, so please bear with me and my scarce posts for a bit!

Now onto sweeter things – like this Valentine’s Day look. When I discovered last year that I had absolutely no pink in my closet, I made a vow right then and there to change that. This bright pink turtleneck brought me from zero to Barbie in .5 seconds, and I can’t say I hate it. Sometimes I like to go subtle with my holiday outfits, but not this time. Although I went classic with dark jeans and neutral booties, I topped off this festive Valentine’s getup with a pop of leopard (duh), big sunnies, and a pair of statement earrings.

Happy Valentine’s Day, sweethearts! ❤

Shearling Darling

Did I steal my post title from an Essie nail polish color? Maybe. But look at that vest — I couldn’t resist! This snuggly little number from Teal, one of my favorite local boutiques, has been one of my favorite winter staples. January weather in Charleston can be tricky; one day it’s 45, the next it’s 75 (scratch that, one hour and the temperature can change drastically) so layering is key. For chilly mornings and warm afternoons, an outfit like this is perfect. I just went with a flannel, skinnies, Frye boots, and threw my shearling vest on top, and I was good to go for a casual day of errands and a coffee date. To accessorize, I opted for my aviators and a crossbody bag to play up the casual vibe, then dressed it up a bit with some gold and sparkly jewelry. What pieces do you have on repeat this winter?

Notcho Poncho

It took a while for me to get on board with ponchos, but now I don’t know how I ever questioned it. Despite the fact that I sort of feel like a Colombian man riding his burro, this is one of my favorite fall wardrobe additions. It was an excellent *MaXxiNisTa* find that’s acceptable enough to leave the house in, but comfy enough to live in — and that’s all I’ve ever wanted. It also doesn’t hurt that it was originally $120 and I got it for a sweet sweet $25. #bargainhunter4lyfe

When it came to styling this pretty poncho, I kept things fairly simple. Skinny jeans, Frye boots, and a pop of blue with my mirrored sunnies. I accessorized with a fun little tassel necklace (give me all the tassels this fall), some B&B bangles, a blingy bracelet, and simple gold rings. Last but not least, it just wouldn’t be right without a messy topknot. Hello, head honcho poncho.

If it weren’t for the Peruvian princess pattern, this shoot would kind of scream Coldwater Creek — but I just can’t help how much I love fall (WE KNOW, CHLOE). I was lucky enough to run home to Virginia for a few days during the the peak of autumn, and it was kind of the best thing ever.

Who else is on the poncho bandwagon this fall?

Style Crush: Lauren Conrad

One of my personal style icons — as well as probably every 16-35 year old woman in America — Lauren Conrad, has it totally figured out. In a true rags to riches story (lol just kidding), Lauren overcame the drama of Laguna Beach and unfortunate eyebrows, ending up on top of the world.

Miss Conrad has two clothing lines, Paper Crown and LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s, a handful of bestsellers (who woulda thought), an amazing style/beauty/everything site, and countless other things that make us all feel like slackers. Her newest project, The Little Market, works with artisan groups in developing countries around the world, allowing them to showcase their skills to a broader audience. LC, what don’t you do?

Aside from all of Conrad’s accomplishments, she has one of the most amazing senses of style I’ve ever seen. Her iconic wardrobe effortlessly combines classic, girlie, and seriously chic — no matter what, she always looks polished and trendy without even trying. Bow down.

Although I’ve always been a Team Kristin gal myself (say how you feel, man!), Lauren will always out-dress Cavallari/everyone on the planet. LC makes use of simple, timeless pieces but then throws in a fearlessly trendy piece that sends fashionistas into a frenzy. Want to nail down Conrad’s famous fashion sense? This is a difficult feat, seeing as she’s always on the cutting edge, but I’m here to help. Check out what I came up with below.2a5380e582335493896645995b8917f8
All these pieces can be mixed & matched, but I will list them as outfits for the sake of simplicity:

  1. Sequin top + pleated skirt: similar to Conrad’s outfit above (far right), this is one of her trendier looks. A stylish geometric print top and a flowy feminine skirt paired with classic nude pumps? Yes, yes, and yes.
  2. Grey tee + black blazer + dark skinnies: this is a token LC outfit; classic, polished perfection. Pair with either nude pumps or black loafers, gold jewelry, Conrad’s go-to black mani & signature oversized sunnies, and you’re ready to take on the world.
  3. Floral dress + quilted bag: similar to another look above (middle), this is what Lauren wears when she wants to look stunningly adorable and flawlessly feminine. Her bag is obvi Chanel, but I found a cheaper alternative. Wear with nude pumps & a gold nameplate necklace and you’ve instantly transformed into the girl model next door.
  4. Chiffon blouse + black skinnies: similar to the far left outfit above, this is another timeless, chic look. Accessorize with pumps or loafers, quilted bag, oversized glasses, and red nails (Conrad’s other sig mani). Don’t forget your topknot!
  5. Accessories: black lacqueroversized sunniesnameplate necklaceshoulder bagblack loafersnude pumpsred lacquer.

Which look is your favorite?
