April Showers Bring May Flowers

Well, it only took us until the middle of May to get rid of the “April” showers and finally bring some spring! What better way to ring in the warmer weather than a trip to a tulip farm? I headed out to Burnside Farms (yep, same as the sunflower farm you saw here!) to pick some fresh blooms and have a little picnic with my pals. Okay, so maybe we just went to the hot dog stand – but we ate them at a picnic table so that’s the same, right?

For my frolic in the flower fields, I went with a white dress with some colorful floral embroidery (never one to stray away from situational dressing). Like many other bloggers/everyone on your insta feed, I too fell in love with the very similar Free People frock – but I wanted the embroidery color from the black dress put on the white dress! Leave it to one of my favorite boutiques, Tres Carmen, to carry an almost-identical dress with my dream color combo – and at half the price! To accessorize, I opted for these comfy espadrilles (a crazy-good dupe for the Marc Fisher ones), giant tassel earrings, round sunnies, and some delicate gold jewelry. And of course, a sweet little basket to carry my blossoms ❤

Hope you all are enjoying some beautiful spring weather!

All White for Labor Day (+ Holiday Weekend Sales!)

IMG_6766

Wait, wasn’t it Memorial Day like two seconds ago? With the big move, getting a new job, and starting some major blog renovations (more on that later but !!!), this summer has gone by in a blink. While some are mourning the loss of the season, I’m already over here putting away bikinis and ordering fall candles (#basic). One thing I’m not giving up when autumn rolls around? White, white, and more white. I’ve mentioned my dislike for the “no white after Labor Day” rule before, and I think now it’s more antiquated than ever. So I’m rebelling with all white everything, and I invite you all to join.

IMG_6782

IMG_6763

I decided to close off summer the same way I started it – with a white off the shoulder top. This time, however, I opted for a thicker, more substantial top, as opposed to the more gauzy and sheer one I wore for Memorial Day, and swapped out my denim cutoffs for some distressed white skinnies. Next, instead of lace up sandals, I went with black heels with sassy braided strap details. I also added on a denim jacket to keep me cozy now that the nights are getting a little cooler (yesss).

IMG_6776

IMG_6774

To top it all off, I wore the same choker as last time – just to show y’all how this little guy will be worn through every season – along with my go-to Clare V clutch, blue mirrored sunnies, and minimal gold jewelry. Last but not least, a pop of coral on my lips as one last nod to summer. Fall, ready when you are, babe.

Making Moves

tk&pd-8

Ever since I moved here a few years ago, I’ve been repping Charleston every way I know how. Whether it’s sporting pieces from local boutiques wherever I go, supporting the amazing restaurant scene, or even donning the Holy City’s airport code on a baseball hat, I just can’t help myself. Check out this local look below, and keep scrolling for some very exciting news!

tk&pd-12

tk&pd-9

Unlike many of the ~fancier~ outfits on my blog, this is something you can actually find me wearing on a daily basis. A comfy cotton dress, sneakers, sunnies, and a hat (mostly to hide what dry shampoo can’t). Although I’m constantly bouncing around between my top Charleston boutiques – browse through the blog and you’ll quickly discern my favorites – I frequent Tres Carmen for my closet staples.

tk&pd-25

tk&pd-30

To take a #basic outfit to the next level, I always reach for a trendy piece or a pop of color. This time, it was both – a hot pink Mar Y Sol tote. To finish off the outfit, I went with my classic gold jewelry and favorite bright lip (the one that I swear makes me look more awake on those venti kind of mornings). Although pink and green isn’t a color combo that I find myself frequenting, we are in Charleston where Lilly reigns supreme, and down here we rock it.

Three years ago I moved to a brand new city, 500 miles from home, where I could count the people I knew on one hand. That city was Charleston, and that move was actually what inspired me to start this blog. This city was where I would meet some of the best people I know, move in with my dream boy, grow my blog more than I ever thought possible, work with some incredible brands, eat the most delicious food, discover something new and beautiful every day – and eventually, have to say goodbye to. I’m both thrilled and terrified to announce that I will be moving to Washington, DC at the end of the month! It’s going to be so exciting to explore another new city, but of course it’s very bittersweet to leave this one. I’d love for you to continue following along as I document my journey right here on the blog – and you better bet I’ll be back in Charleston as much as I can. Thank you to everyone who has made this place feel like home! Cold Shoulders (+ Hot Memorial Day Weekend Sales)

tk&pd-2

Memorial Day is widely accepted as the unofficial start of summer, and I’m welcoming it with open arms (and bare shoulders). It doesn’t feel very “unofficial” in Charleston where spring is approximately 5 min and we’ve been pushing 90 degrees since April, so for all intents and purposes I’m going to start saying it’s summer. Deal? I’m celebrating the best way I know how – on a rooftop wearing two of my favorite warm-weather staples, an off the shoulder top and denim cutoffs. Ring in summertime with me (and the best Memorial Day Weekend sales) below!

tk&pd-10

tk&pd-6

Is there anything better than a feminine off the shoulder neckline paired with the unfinished look of distressed denim? The answer is no – making it the ideal summer uniform. Since this combo provided the perfect blank canvas, I had lots of fun with accessories.

tk&pd-13

tk&pd-4

tk&pd-7

I love a choker with an OTS neckline, and this one from Vanessa Mooney makes me swoon(ey). Another fun touch was this little clutch featuring a tassel zipper, because tassels are my religion. I finished off the look with lace up sandals (currently on sale for $18!), classic black aviators, and delicate gold jewelzZzz. (Kayla Itsines-induced sports bra tanline not included.)

Cool Colorblocking

Okay, is anyone else a serious slave to Loft?! It’s the weirdest thing, guys – every time I go in the store, my last paycheck disappears. On (one of) my last excursions to my local Loft, this dainty little dress was calling my name. I love the contrast of the dark gray with the pale lavender, the midi length, and the flowing material of the skirt. It’s just so feminine and chic, not to mention comfortable! Loft, you’ve done it again.

Styling this frock was pretty much foolproof. Simple accessories, a little bit of gold, and a pop of leopard – and I was good to go. As you probably know by now, my Clare V. clutch goes with pretty much everything (or at least I make it go with everything), and this dress was no exception. I just love how all these colors and textures go together! To tie together the neutral tan hues in the clutch, I finished off the look with my go-to wedges. Last but not least, simple gold jewelry, a statement necklace with peach, gray and lavender hues, and simple black aviators. The sweet jewelry adds to the pretty vibe of the outfit, and the aviators kind of offset it a bit and add to the coolness.

Finishing touches: a loose low bun, subtle nude lips, and soft pink nails. Perfect for a romantic date night out, drinks with girlfriends, or even from work to happy hour. OR a baby shower, which is where I actually wore this, lolz.

#SBScon Day 1: Matchy Blue

IMG_5933 copy

If you follow me on insta, I’m sure you saw my many, many photos from the Southern Blog Society conference a couple weeks ago. Well, my looks from each day of the weekend are coming to the blog this week – finally! Don’t blame me, blame the blue wristbands from the conference that had to be edited out of my photos by my photoshop savvy friend who now hates my guts. But I digress… Take a peek at my first outfit from the welcome cocktail party, hosted by Swoozies!

IMG_5951

I was having the hardest time nailing down my outfits for the conference – that is, until I walked into Lily Rain. This boutique just opened up in Mt. Pleasant and there isn’t one thing in the whole store I didn’t love. When I saw this matching set, it was a no-brainer for the welcome cocktail. The combination of the cutouts, the nude underlay, and the unique fabric (seersucker’s edgy sister) had me at hello.

IMG_5964 copy

IMG_6006 copy

When it came to my accessories, I kept things pretty neutral with my heels and clutch. I love how they kind of picked up the nude underlay of the matching set! I accessorized with minimal gold jewelry and my blue mirrored sunnies to keep up my blue theme. Last but not least, I couldn’t resist a pop of color with my coral lips and nails! Sometimes I just gotta go full on matchy-matchy, and I can’t say I hated it.

Pineapple Party

Smithphotos+ink-11

It’s no secret that pineapples are absolutely everywhere right now. My problem used to be that I needed more pineapple paraphernalia, but now the issue is to not wear it head to toe. I was super excited to shoot this dress, not just because I’m in love with it, but because it was my first shoot with my new photographer, Jessica Smith of Smith Photos + Ink! She’s super talented, so much fun to work with, and just gets it. We’re a match made in heaven and I’m thrilled to announce that she’ll be the official photographer of TK&PD!!! Take a look at how amazing she is in my new favorite shoot below.

When I saw this dress at one of my fave local boutiques, II Brunettes, it was all over. Not only is it covered with everyone’s favorite trendy fruit, but I adore the colors, low back, and swingy silhouette as well. It also kind of reminds me of what my sister, Jordan of luxe & staple, made for me for my birthday (as seen here), which makes me happy too.

When it came to styling this dress, less was definitely more. Because the dress is so beautifully busy, I just went with neutral wedges to let the frock do its thang. I also kept jewelry pretty minimal with some white geometric earrings, a couple gold midi rings, and my starfish cuff. However, I couldn’t resist pattern mixing with my Clare V. clutch and adding a pop of color with my blue mirrored aviators. If I weren’t overaccessorizing, who would I even be?

I topped off the look with clean white nails and a bright pink pout for another little pop of color, making this the ultimate summer ensemble. What do y’all think?

Welcome to the Jungle

IMG_5758

You know those pieces hanging in your closet that just put you in a better mood? This little dress from Dandy Boutique is one of them. Not only does it totally scream summer, but I also can’t decide whether it reminds me more of Zazu from The Lion King or a box of Froot Loops – and frankly, all of those things put me in a better mood, so I’m kind of not surprised at the happiness factor of this frock.

I got this dress a couple months ago but it took me a while to decide on the perfect time to wear it (#bloggerproblems). However, when the Candy Shop Vintage store opening popped up in my planner, I knew it was time. As its name might suggest, Candy Shop Vintage is known for being colorful, fun, and oh-so sweet, so I needed an outfit to match. Enter: Toucan Sam Shift Dress. Because the print of this dress is so wild, I opted for a simple black envelope clutch and black lace-up heels to balance it out. As for eyewear, my wayfarers seemed like the ideal choice since the black sleeves of this shift give me a sporty, almost wetsuit-esque vibe. Is that just me? K cool.

IMG_5759

IMG_5741

For the rest of my accessories, my Charleston Rice Beads were a no-brainer. Not only did I want to rep Candy Shop Vintage at their showroom opening, but this necklace goes with absolutely everything – and this outfit was no exception. To top it off, I chose some fun gold midi rings and these little white triangle earrings. I’m usually not a dangly earrings kind of gal, but these were perfect for this look (and were on sale for less than $10)!

IMG_5749

IMG_5757

If you haven’t visited the Candy Shop Vintage retail showroom yet, it’s now open for business! The space, the decor, the location, and of course, the products could not be any sweeter (see what I did there?), and I wouldn’t expect anything less. Take a look at a couple snapshots I took from the event below, then cruise down to Cannon to get a peek for yourself! And be a doll and pick me up some mini honey cupcakes from Sugar while you’re down there?

We all knew it had to rain at some point during CFW, and Day 3 happened to be the lucky winner. I decide to stand out against the gloomy weather with this Mara Hoffman neon number from Finicky Filly. Not only do I love the bright colors and geometric patterns on this simple black shift, but if you look closely, that fun print is actually slithering, swirling snakes. How badass is that?! To play up the edgy vibe of my Medusa-inspired frock, I went with black lace-up heels and a layered chain necklace and pyramid stud ring courtesy of Moon & Lola. These gold chains instantly took my outfit to the next level and made me feel kind of like Nicki Minaj (or maybe that’s just because “Anaconda” was stuck in my head all night because of the snake dress). To play up my dayglo duds, I topped off the look with a fantastic neon foldover clutch courtesy of StyleDwell, my blue mirrored aviators for when the sun peeked out, and a pink pout. Bring it on, rain.

Layering Love

IMG_4812

IMG_4827

IMG_4822

This winter I’ve been on a huge layering kick – it could be because I’m cold-blooded and need all the help I can get, or maybe because it simply brings any outfit to the next level. My look above would have been okay with just the striped top + sweater, or the chambray shirt + sweater, or the striped top + chambray shirt – but all three together? Magic.

Usually I try to mix up the pieces in my outfit in terms of designers, price points, and general vibe (think Tory + Target, $250 shoes with a $25 dress, grunge boyfriend jeans + pretty peplum top). However, these items, all three from J. Crew, were just asking to be layered. Sometimes things are just meant to be, guys. I’ve been wearing my chambray shirt under absolutely everything recently, so this time with my striped necklace tee (which I purchased immediately after seeing on The Mindy Project #noregrets) was no different. As a result of my core belief that leopard will always make every outfit better combined with a stroke of pure genius, the leopard cardigan happened, making this layered look one for the storybooks. Too much??

Because the top half of this outfit has SO MUCH GOING ON, I kept the rest simple with some black skinnies and minimal gold jewelry. Then, because the J. Crew explosion had me feeling a little bit like a soccer mom on her way to a PTA meeting, I added a sporty feel with white chucks and wayfarers. Do y’all love this look as much as I do? Probs not.

Take home messages: layer anything and everything, print mixing is a bonus (as always), say yes to leopard, Chloe is very humble and modest about her layering skills, watch The Mindy Project, etc.

Stay tuned for a lesson in layering, coming soon to TK&PD! Thanks for reading ❤
